Convict arrested in Claiborne County killing

A convicted killer released from prison on medical leave is accused of the fatal shooting Thursday of another man in Claiborne County.
Sheriff Frank Davis said James White, who is serving a 20-year sentence for manslaughter, faces additional charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Forty-year-old Richard Anderson was killed in front of his girlfriend’s home near Port Gibson.
Davis said Anderson was confronted outside the home by White, who has been on medical release since Oct. 2.
While the two were arguing, Davis said the 48-year-old White pulled a pistol and shot Anderson at least once in the chest. After being shot, Anderson reached in his back pocket, grabbed his handgun and returned fire, hitting White in the chest.
White’s condition was not released, and it was not known where or if he was hospitalized.
City man arrested in Big Lots embezzlement
A Vicksburg man was arrested Thursday on charges of embezzlement Vicksburg police records show.
William Quimby, 47, 2160 S. Frontage Road, was served with a felony arrest warrant at Big Lots discount store at 3:15 p.m., Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
The arrest stems from an incident at Big Lots, where Quimby was an assistant manager, Stewart said.
Quimby was not held and is expected to have his bond set by City Judge Walterine Langford today, Stewart said.
Boy, woman injured in two wrecks in city
A Vicksburg boy and a Warren County woman were hospitalized Thursday after separate wrecks in the city.
A River Region Medical Center spokesman said Detarius Griffin, 9, 107 Farmer St., was treated and released following a two-car accident reported in the 3700 block of Porters Chapel Road. Vicksburg Fire Department rescue records showed the driver, his mother LeTariya Griffin, age unavailable, was not injured.
Evelyn Hunt, 83, 125 Brabston Drive, was reported in fair condition this morning following a two-car accident on Pemberton Square Boulevard at 7:23 p.m. Records indicated she was the lone occupant. No information was available on the second vehicle.
Water heater, speaker among missing items
Two burglaries were reported Thursday.
* A stereo speaker and an engine computer were reported missing at 8:45 a.m. Thursday from separate vehicles in the 1600 block of U.S. 80, said police Lt. Bobby Stewart. A 1991 Toyota MR2, from which the speakers were reportedly taken, also had sunroof damage, records showed. The engine computer was reported missing from a 1993 GMC Sierra, records showed. The items were valued at $650.
* A gas water heater valued at $50 was reported missing from a home in the 1600 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, said police Lt. Bobby Stewart.
