Nelly M. Goodson

Mrs. Nelly M. Goodson died Jan. 10, 2009, at her residence. She was 87.

Born in Oran, Algeria, she was the daughter of Otis Sam McJohnson and Felicie Mahon McJohnson. Mrs. Goodson’s father was a French Colonist and a noted artist and inventor.

She came to America in 1950 where she fell in love at first sight with David Goodson, and they were married shortly thereafter. Mrs. Goodson had master’s degrees in both French and Spanish and taught foreign languages at the college level for many years. She was a member of The Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, and Christ Episcopal Church. For many years, Mrs. Goodson was a member of the Daughters of the King Episcopal Women’s’ organization.

She is survived by an only child, her daughter Jeanine Hensley of Vicksburg; her son-in-law, Jeffrey Hensley of Vicksburg; and her grandsons, Sean Ellison Hensley and Stephen David Hensley.

She was predeceased by her husband, David Boyd Goodson of Houston, Texas.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at The Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, with the Rev. Michael Nation, rector, and the Very Rev. Chan Osborne de Anaya, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, officiating. Visitation will be at the McInnis Parish Hall of The Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, from 2 p.m. until the hour of the service.
