Despite the rain and predictions of lower temperatures, the mercury was holding at about 40 degrees in the city. A cold front that moved into the state overnight was forecast to bring icy conditions to the northern part of the state, as far south as Sharkey County, but in Vicksburg, the rain was expected to clear by this evening.
