Initial arraignments on indictments returned by the Warren County Grand Jury were administered by Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick Thursday.
Hearing the formal charges were:
* Colton Branning, 18, 118 Robert E. Lee Blvd. — simple assault on a law enforcement officer and escape from confinement on Nov. 21.
* Allen Arness Bryant, 48, who gave arresting officers addresses of 2711 Drummond St. and 4324 Common Circle, — uttering a forgery on Aug. 28 and felony eluding on Oct. 7.
* Wade Carter, 19, 1135 Standard Hill Road — sale of controlled substance on Nov. 25; sale of controlled substance on Dec. 1.
* Jeffery Eatmon, 28, 2816 Drummond St. — possession of a controlled substance, child endangerment and two counts of possession of a weapon after felony conviction, all on May 8.
* Charles Johnson, 20, who gave a nonexistent address — shoplifting, third offense on Nov. 30.
• Lee Ellen Newsome, 31, 1205 Prospect St. — possession of a controlled substance on Aug. 26.
* Johnny Thompson, 26, 8687 U.S. 61 South — possession of a controlled substance, child endangerment and two counts of possession of a weapon after felony conviction, all on May 8.
* Edward Carroll Walker Jr., 42, 102 Meadow Lane, Clinton — two counts of burglary of a dwelling and grand larceny, both on Nov. 3; burglary of a dwelling and grand larceny on Nov. 19; and trafficking in stolen firearms on Nov. 21.
Grand jurors, chosen at random from voter roles and sworn in Monday, were expected to review about 100 case files — including one for capital murder — before adjourning, perhaps today.
Indictments modify, formalize or end charges filed by police and prosecutors. At arraignments, those accused of felonies must appear to hear the charges. Another duty of grand jurors is to inspect public buildings.
