DELHI — Funeral services for Mr. John M. McPherson, 82, of Delhi, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi. The Rev. Charles Best will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 until 9 this evening and at 9 a.m. until the service Monday at Cox Funeral Home. Burial will be at Faith Memorial Park Cemetery, south of Delhi, with military honors.

Mr. McPherson died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at Promise Hospital of Vicksburg. He was a longtime resident of Richland Parish and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a hard-working, heavy equipment operator and was a member of IUOE Local No. 624.

He was a faithful Christian who appreciated and loved his nine children. He missed his adoring and loving wife dearly, and took great joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was preceded in death by his wife, Divicie McPherson; two sons, James and Thomas McPherson; a grandson, Toby Green; two brothers, Edwin and George McPherson; and his parents, Elmore Edwin McPherson and Edna Emma Lucille Holman McPherson.

He is survived by seven children, Elmore McPherson of Stockton, Mo., Georgia Denius of Poplarville, Miss., Charles McPherson of Liberty, S.C., Christine Green of Delhi, Delores Hinton of Shreveport, Lela Cobb of Glenmora, La., and Jackie Williams of Delhi; one sister, Adelle Goodner; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Monroe, Billy Hartley, Chris Hartley, Randall McPherson, Robert McPherson and Eddie Fuller.

Daddy will be missed by his family and friends, but we take great joy in knowing he is finally with his beloved wife, Divicie, and sons and grandson.
