Love is in the air: SCHC filled with sweet sounds of music

Published 12:00 am Sunday, February 8, 2009

For the third year, Pi Alpha Kappa sorority and the Southern Cultural Heritage Center have teamed up for To Vicksburg with Love, an annual musical event that falls near Valentine’s Day.

The lunchtime concert will be Tuesday at the SCHC. This year’s theme is Melodies and Memories and will feature the music of Vicksburg natives Norman and Jane Joseph of Clinton. The pair will entertain while guests eat food prepared by Pi Alpha Kappa sorority.

Jane Joseph is an organist at Crawford Street United Methodist Church and a member of the music faculty at Hinds Community College in Raymond. She is a lifelong musician who has a master’s degree in piano performances from Louisiana State University. Her husband is head football coach at Mississippi College.

“I’ve been privileged to watch Jane mature in her music and as a person,” said Frances Koury, a member of Pi Alpha Kappa and coordinator of the event.

Tickets are $10 and, in a philanthropic effort, the sorority will donate proceeds to its national scholarship program.

As an addition to this year’s festivities, Regina Gailani, owner of Art & Soul on Washington Street, designed a necklace, made of Swarovski crystal and nuggets of carnelian stone, that will be raffled at the event. Proceeds will benefit PAK’s scholarship fund.

Gailani designed jewelry worn by Miss Mississippi Christine Kozlowski during the Miss America pageant last month.
