John Henry Porter

John Henry Porter died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at his home. He was 75.

Mr. Porter was a former member of Mount Zion No. 4 and a member of Triumph M.B. Church. He served in the Air Force from 1950 until 1954.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elzia Porter; his mother and stepfather, Electa Ernestine Whitney and Willie “Eli” Whitney; and a sister, Evelyn Porter.

Survivors include a son, Roderick Porter of Vicksburg; a stepson, the Rev. Troy D. Truly Sr. of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Jewel M. Truly of Vicksburg; three brothers, Preston Porter and Sammie Porter, both of Washington, D.C., and Raymond Smith of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including members of the Porter, Johnson, Smith and Dillard families.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Troy D. Truly Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Thursday with family present from 5 until 6.
