Q: My parents want me to drop out of school because I flunked out of the first semester of college. I had all F’s, but it wasn’t my fault. I was having an adjustment problem and couldn’t study. Do you think it’s fair — what they’re doing? My parents say I wasted their hard-earned money paying my tuition. — Being Punished
A: I am skeptical that you are blaming your failure during on “adjustment problems.” It is hard to flunk every subject. To me, that implies you cut all your classes, did not turn in your work, did not prepare for tests and never talked to your teachers about your plight. There are teachers out there who pass students who come to class, try hard and work with their instructors, merely because they put forward the effort. I think your parents are right. It is time for you to get a job and mature. Moreover, if you do plan to go back to college, you should save some money and pay for college yourself. You will think twice about throwing your own cash away.
