EDWARDS — Hugh Andrew Allen Sr. died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Regency Hospital in Jackson. He was 79.

Mr. Allen was a native of Copiah County and lived in Edwards for 47 years. He owned and operated a radio and TV repair shop in Edwards and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after serving as a rural letter carrier for 30 years.

Mr. Allen served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Vicksburg Church of Christ.

He was predeceased by his parents, George A. Allen and Susie Bell Kimble.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Allen of Edwards; three sons, Hugh Andrew Allen Jr. of Saginaw, Texas, and Joel Dexter Allen and Dana Matthew Allen, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Ava Lorraine Stathes of Houma, La.; four brothers, Aubrey Steve Allen, Nathan Seth Allen and Troy Leroy Allen, all of Brookhaven, and George Melvin Allen of Bogue Chitto; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with  Reggie Crawford and Eric Welch officiating. Burial will be at Edwards Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service.

Mr. Allen’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.
