Lenten Arts Series will kick off Friday

The 2009 Lenten Fine Arts Series kicks off Friday with an art show and opening reception. The event will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The five-week series of music and gumbo lunches runs each Friday from March 6 to April 3. Lunch is $8 and is served with a salad, drink and dessert. All events will take place at The Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, at South and Monroe streets. Call 601-636-0542 for information or tickets.

Blues’ Bobby Rush to play at Horizon
Blues artist Bobby Rush will perform March 2-3 at Horizon Casino’s Mulberry Lounge.
Show times are 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include a $5 slot-play coupon and free drink.
Rush was born in the north Louisiana town of Homer. He resides in Jackson and owns his own record label, Deep Rush. His hits include “Sue,” “Wearin’ It Out,” “Ain’t Studdin’ You” and “Hoochie Man.”

Love story on tap at Parkside theater
The Vicksburg Theatre Guild will present “Searching for Eden: The Diaries of Adam and Eve” at 2 p.m. today at Parkside Playhouse on Iowa Avenue.
Searching for Eden is a love story. Written by James Still, it is adapted from extracts from “Adam’s Diary” and “Eve’s Diary,” short stories by Mark Twain. It is directed by Jeff Hensley.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 55 and older, $7 for students and $5 for children 12 and younger.

Spring is in the air at Southern Cultural
Beau Lutz of Belvedere and Company will lead a spring floral wreath and centerpiece workshop.
The class will be at 5:30 p.m. March 31 at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center. Materials will be provided, but participants should bring a glue gun.
