A 150-pound cylinder of anhydrous ammonia stolen weeks ago from the Fisher Ferry Water District was recovered early this morning as a Vicksburg man and a Utica man were arrested in a joint investigation by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
Joe R. Chapin, 28, 598 Ring Road, was charged with burglary to a business, grand larceny, stealing anhydrous ammonia and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Michael Bryant, 23, 4405 Duke Road, Utica, was arrested by MBN agents in Hinds County and charged with burglary to a business.
Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said the ammonia, which is extremely caustic and dangerous, appeared not to have been released in quantities to cause injury to the public. Investigators believe small amounts were used by the men in the manufacture of methamphetamine, Pace said.
No precursors or other meth manufacturing materials were found, he said.
The cylinder was recovered between Utica and Vicksburg.
Chapin and Bryant were in the Warren County Jail without bond, Pace said.
