The decision was an easy one for WC coach Dana McGivney and Vicksburg coach Amanda Yocum as the base paths turned to mud and the ball became a slippery cannonball in the cold rain.

“No matter who would have won out of here today, this wouldn’t have been a true game,” Yocum said of the conditions.

Both start division play next week and the risk of injuries became too much.

“The conditions started getting worse and we both start district play next week,” McGivney said. “We couldn’t take any chances on us getting any of our players injured before district play. ”

St. Aloysius overcame their disheartening loss to WC on Friday and took third place, romping over Madison-St. Joe 12-1 and ripping Greenville-St. Joe 8-0 in the third-place game.

Sarah Franco picked up the win in the third-place game, striking out seven in a one-hit gem. Catelyn Park led off the first frame with a single and she later scored on an error to put St. Al up 1-0 early. After a scoreless second, a walk and an error put two on for Franco in the third, who ripped a single through the gap in right to plate both.

In the fourth, the Lady Flashes (8-1) kept up the pressure, as five runs scored on four errors and no hits.
