Hinds Community College’s 2009 Bull Test Sale and Mississippi Beef Cattle Improvement Association Spring 2009 Bull Sale are set for Thursday.

Events will kick off at noon at the Hinds Bull Sale Facility in Raymond. Bulls will be available for viewing starting Wednesday afternoon. Angus, Charolais, Hereford, Red Brangus and Simmental bulls will be sold.

Fitness event Saturday at City Auditorium

Take Charge of Your Health 2009, a fitness event in its second year, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Vicksburg Auditorium.

The event is free and was spearheaded by Angela Turner of Vicksburg. Activities will include a body mass index analysis and the distribution of information on homeopathic personal care and massage therapy.

Sorority to present health fair at mall

The Vicksburg Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Alumnae Chapter will host its third annual Community Empowerment Day Health Fair Saturday at the Meeting Place at Pemberton Square mall.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature information about nutrition and health from area professionals as well as free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings.

USM handbells to play at First Baptist

The University of Southern Mississippi Handbell Choir will present a concert next week at Vicksburg’s First Baptist Church.

The performance is set for 6 p.m. March 8 at the church on Cherry Street. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Bamboo wind chimes focus of SCHC class

A bamboo wind chimes workshop will be at 5:30 p.m. April 7 at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center.

Rob Mendrop of Vicksburg will teach the class. He has a bachelor’s degree in horticulture and landscape design from Mississippi State University, and owns a landscaping company in Edwards.

The fee is $40 for SCHC members and $45 for nonmembers. Supplies are included, and reservations are required.
