Achievements
* Dr. Amin Haque, Alcorn State University professor, had two articles published in the Journal of the Mississippi Academy of Sciences. His articles were “Large Hadron Collider and Its Importance to Understanding the Universe,” which focused on resolving composition mysteries of the universe, and “Mysteries of the Universe Need Solution,” focusing on the unity of two physics theories — Quantum Mechanics and General Theory of Relativity.
* Dr. Girish Panicker, director of the Center for Conservation Research at Alcorn State University and a certified professional agronomist, has been appointed to the advisory committee of the National Organic Farming Research Foundation. One of eight scientists selected to the committee, he will represent all 1890 land-grant universities.
Competitions
Charles Brown III received third place in the Entrepreneurship (Independent Business Plan) Event at the State DECA Conference. A junior at Vicksburg High School, he serves as a DECA officer and is a second-year marketing student at Hinds Career and Technical Center. With his instructor, Donna Cook, he will travel to Anaheim, Calif., in April to compete at the International DECA Conference.
Degrees
Cori Shiers has graduated with a degree in environmental geo science from Mississippi State University, where she was named to the president’s list. She is working as a staff scientist for Applied Research Associates and is making her home in Flowood. She is the daughter of Allen and Pat Shiers of Vicksburg.
Degrees
Andrew C. Pedron has graduated magna cum laude from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts degree in architecture. He was a member of the Honors College at the university and interned in France with French architect Frederic Borel. He is working for Lucas Swelling Architects in Lexington, Ky., and will attend graduate school in the fall. He is the son of Mark and Melissa Pedron of Elizabethtown, Ky., and the grandson of Lester and Patricia Pedron of Vicksburg.
Honor rolls
* Hannah Sluis has been named to the dean’s list for the fall term at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga. She is the daughter of Gordon and Jennifer Sluis of Vicksburg.
* Ellen Frances Wakeley of Vicksburg has been named to the fall dean’s list at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.
* Jessica Henderson of Vicksburg has been named to the vice president’s honor roll at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla. A junior journalism major, she is the daughter of Fredessa Sharp of Vicksburg.
