Attempted armed robbery reported

An attempted armed robbery was reported at a check cashing service Wednesday morning.

A store clerk at Emergency Cash, 1713 Clay St., said a man entered the store and demanded money while displaying a weapon, said Lt. Bobby Stewart.

The clerk screamed, and the suspect fled, Stewart said. No money was missing and no arrest had been made, said Stewart.

In a report at 7:18 a.m. Tuesday, Turning Heads Cleaners, 1514-C Cherry St., reported the cash register with $385 was missing.

The empty register was found behind the business, said Sgt. Sandra Williams. No arrest had been made.

Woman suspect in purse-snatching

A strong-armed robbery was reported at Walgreens on Halls Ferry Road at 1:06 p.m. Wednesday.

The suspect, described as a 5-foot-tall woman, snatched a purse containing $40 from another woman as she left the store, said Lt. Bobby Stewart.

Nearby construction workers reported seeing the suspect run toward the Greyhound bus station, 1295 S. Frontage Road, said Stewart. No arrest had been made.

City man jailed for pot possession

A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail this morning for possessing marijuana.

Elijah Caine, 32, 107 Pemberton St., was arrested at 8:04 p.m. Tuesday at his home after a Vicksburg Police Department undercover narcotics operation led to a search warrant, said Sgt. Sandra Williams.

Caine is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He was being held without bond.

City man arrested in car break-in

A Vicksburg man was released from the Warren County Jail Tuesday after being charged with breaking into a minivan at a bank parking lot.

Jonathan Williams, 20, 1422 Oakland Lane, was arrested at 12:43 p.m. at the South Street BancorpSouth parking lot for breaking into a 2006 Chrysler TWC, said Sgt. Sandra Williams. Williams was free on a $2,500 bond.

TV, game missing in home burglaries

A residential burglary was reported in the city at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday.

A 32-inch flat screen TV valued at $399 and a Sony PlayStation 2 valued at $200 were reported missing from a home in the 2700 block of Valley Street.

A residential burglary was reported at 8:53 a.m. at an apartment at 201 Berryman Road Tuesday.

Durabrand USB speakers valued at $10, a Sony portable CD player valued at $30 and a toolbox filled with an assortment of tools valued at $100 were reported missing.
