Meoikia Johnson, 21, whose home address was unavailable, was in critical condition this morning at University Medical Center in Jackson. Davis said she was shot once in the jaw, twice in the chest and once each in the hip and leg.

“We are still talking to witnesses,” he said, among them Thompson’s uncle, John Walker, who was in the home when the shootings occurred.

Davis said Thompson is believed to have shot his girlfriend, called authorities and then turned the gun on himself around 2:45 p.m.

It was the third fatal shooting this year in Port Gibson.

Rufus Williams, 25, 1009 Robinson St., died Feb. 26 from a gunshot wound in his neck. Calvin Barber, 26, 2002 Dogwood St., the site of the killing, has been charged with murder in that case. Santraila Epps, 27, of the same address, was charged with being an accessory after the fact. Epps took Barber from the house and tried to make the shooting look like suicide, authorities believe. Barber also is charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon, having previously been convicted of burglary.

Richard Anderson, 40, was fatally shot Jan. 22 in a double shooting in which he injured James White, 48, whose address is unavailable.

White, a convicted killer who was out of prison on medical leave, was charged with Anderson’s murder.
