Colin Wilson is 10 years old and a fifth-grader at Redwood Elementary School, and he’s also an artist with a work in a national magazine.
“Wow,” is the word he used to describe how he felt after finding out his drawing, “A Desert Road Trip,” was being published in “My Own Pages” section of the March issue of Highlights for Children magazine, which features art and poems from children nationwide.
Colin is the son of Tom and Betty Wilson. His mother submitted the artwork last year, when Colin was 9.
“I didn’t know I was going to get in it,” Colin said.
Highlights for Children is an educational magazine with the motto of “wholesome fun is dedicated to helping children grow in basic skills and knowledge, in creativeness, in ability to think and reason, in sensitivity to others, in high ideals, and worthy ways of living — for children are the world’s most important people.”
Colin said the inspiration for his drawing came during an art lesson in school on 3-D drawings.
“A Desert Road Trip” is Colin’s 3-D drawing of a family road trip to the desert with mountains in the backdrop.
Along with art, he enjoys playing sports, especially soccer and baseball, and his favorite subject in school is social studies.
And, oh yes, he’d like to take a drive in a desert some day.
