Two arrested on separate forgery charges

A Jackson man was arrested for trying to pass a fake check at a Vicksburg casino in one of two forgery cases reported in the city Thursday.

Jesse Sawyer, 41, 1125 Ridgeway St., was arrested at the Vicksburg Police Department at 5:52 p.m. and charged with uttering a forgery, said Sgt. Sandra Williams.

The charge stemmed from an incident reported on Feb. 20 by Rainbow Hotel Casino, 1380 Warrenton Road, where he passed a fake check, said Williams.

Sawyer was in Issaquena County Jail without bond.

Separately, Donny Myers, 20, 1403 Jackson St., was arrested at Faulk’s Garden Shop and Landscaping, 1118 Clay St., for attempting to pass a check not belonging to him, Williams said. He  was charged with forgery and  released on a $2,500 bond.

Pearl man jailed for violation of order

A Pearl man was in the Warren County jail this morning for a violation of protection order.

William Gates, 52, 2011 Lloyd Drive, was arrested at 5:10 p.m. Thursday and charged with violation of protection order, jail records said. He was being held without bond.

Wreck on Oak Ridge injures two people

A two-car wreck at 11:31 p.m. Thursday on Oak Ridge Road at Newit Vick Drive sent two Vicksburg residents to the hospital.

Benjamin Bishop, 18, 316 Kirkland Road, and Alexandra Clausner, 20, 3125 Drummond St., were treated and released from the hospital, said River Region Medical Center spokesman Allen Karel.

No information from the wreck was available.

Ladder, jewelry among missing items

Three thefts were reported in Vicksburg Thursday.

* A 40-feet aluminum extension ladder valued at $750 was reported missing at 7:51 p.m. from the yard of a home in the 2300 block of Temple Street.

* Jewelry valued at $8,385 was reported missing from the 100 block of Hamilton Place at 12:10 p.m. Missing were a rope necklace, a rope bracelet, two sets of one-carat gold earrings, a diamond earring, his and hers Geneva watches, a Wittnauer watch, a Jurgensen men’s watch, a Herringbone necklace, four tennis bracelets, a wedding band, an anniversary ring, two birthstone rings, a diamond cluster ring, a round-cut diamond club ring, a diamond gold ring and a V-cut diamond gold ring.

* A Pioneer CD player valued at $300 and an LCD TV valued at $180 were reported missing at 7:14 a.m. from a 1983 Chevrolet Caprice in the 1400 block of First North Street.
