Summer’s on the way

Tony Brunini of Louisiana Melon Company uses his tractor to place plastic and drip tape while making beds for watermelons at the Allen Farm on Oil Mill Road Monday in Port Gibson. Brunini and his crew planted 14,000 jubilee watermelon transplants on the 15-acre plot. The plastic will keep weeds and insects from harming the watermelons and the drip tape will connect to an irrigation system to keep them hydrated. The melons are expected to be grown and ripe in time for summer.
