Warren County Deputy Sam Winchester Tuesday morning carries the Special Olympics torch into Memorial Stadium accompanied by, from left, Sheriff Martin Pace, Deputy Angel Heggins and Deputy Mary Coffee. One hundred volunteers helped about 250 participants from Warren and Claiborne county schools and from MIDD-West Industries compete in track and field events and bocce ball during the day’s games that began with the torch lighting. The games give clearance for athletes to participate in the state summer games at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, said Pauline Vessell, Area 10 director. (Suzanne Feliciano*The Vicksburg Post)
