VTG announces plays, auditions

The Vicksburg Theatre Guild will present shows and auditions through July.

* “The Fantasticks” will run April 23, 25-26, 30 and May 1-3. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The play is a classic tale of lovers found and lost. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for those 55 and older, $7 for students, $5 for children younger than 12.

* “Always… Patsy Cline” will run May 15-17 and 22-24. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

* Fairy Tale Theatre, the guild’s youth program, will run June 25-28. Auditions will be from 2-5 p.m. April 18-19. Needed are ages 7-18. The registration fee is $35 per child for guild members and $55 for nonmembers and will be due May 13. Show times will be announced. Tickets for shows will be $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12.

* Auditions for “Gold in the Hills,” to run July 10-Aug. 1, will be at 5:30 p.m. May 17 and 6:30 p.m. May 19.

Needed are ages 6 to adult. Can-can dancers must be at least in ninth grade.

Bike show, poker run April 4 at Outlets

A motorcycle show and poker run set for April 4 will benefit Area 10 Special Olympics.

The free events, organized by Gold Wind Road Riders Association Region A, will be at the Outlets at Vicksburg beginning with the bike show from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.

The poker run will begin from 10 a.m. until noon. Cash prizes range up to $50, said organizers Phillip and Elaine Williams.

Ancient music show Tuesday in Jackson

The Mississippi Academy of Ancient Music will present Angels and Devils, a concert, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Episcopal Church in Jackson.

The concert will feature music by lute and baroque guitarist William Carter, baroque violinist Rodolfo Ricci  and others.

Carter is a professor of baroque studies and lute at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Ricci has studied at the Royal Academy of Music and has performed with the English Concert, the Gabrieli Consort and Players, the Academy of Ancient Music and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at the door. The church is located at 3921 Oakridge Drive.

Chubby Checker  to twist at casino

Legendary rocker Chubby Checker will perform at 8 p.m. April 30 at the Silver Star Convention Center in Choctaw.

Air show headed to Keesler base

Keesler Air Force Base’s Thunder on the Bay Air Show and Open House will be Saturday and April 5 in Biloxi.

Gates will open at 9 a.m. and the show will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team, U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team and others.
