Alma M. Hughes died Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. She was 88.

Born in Natchez, Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and a member of Mount Carmel Ministries.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hughes; one daughter, Doris Hughes; and her parents, the Rev. Charlie Sanders and Lillie Ramsey Sanders.

She is survived by a sister, Almeda Powell of Chicago; and other relatives, including Charlie Jean Newton of Vicksburg.
