Mordecai Funches died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at his home. He was 84.

Mr. Funches was a native of Vicksburg and had lived in Chicago for several years before moving back to Vicksburg. He was a veteran of War World II.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Atkins; and a sister, Theadosia Jackson.

Survivors include his three sons, Mordecai Funches Jr., Cleveland Funches and Molotov Funches, all of Chicago; seven daughters, Mary Bee, Cynthia Funches, Carolyn Everett, Ruby Artley, Josephine Blackmon, Lorraine Funches, all of Chicago, and Theadosia Smith of Atlanta; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
