Class aims to help parents understand techy teens

Warren-Yazoo Mental Health Service is offering a seminar to parents to help them learn what their children are doing on the computer.

Parenting the Computer Savvy Teen at 7 p.m. April 23 at the Yazoo National Guard Armory, 2201 Gordon Ave., Yazoo City, will focus on Internet safety, cyberbullying and the Web’s impact on development and relationships. The workshop will also touch on social networking, dangers of online predators, online social norms and tips to monitor a teen’s use of electronic devices.

Tom Robbins, director of counseling and safety and drug-free schools for the Archdiocese of Louisville, Ky., and Nancy DeLaney, who is completing her doctorate in educational and counseling psychology, will present the class.

Robbins has a doctorate in marriage and family therapy and is a licensed therapist.  He has presented professional seminars on family topics throughout the country.

DeLaney has been conducting research on violence prevention and cyberbullying in the classroom. She has presented her research throughout the country.
