NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Kit Polk died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Nacogdoches Medical Center. He was 75.

Mr. Polk was born in Nacogdoches to Jim Polk and Bertha Shears. He served in the Army, coached basketball and softball and was employed at R.S.D. Railroad for 35 years.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mariah Stegall, Anna Powers and Cornelius Sanders; two brothers, Elijah Polk and Elisha Polk; and one son, Thomas McCoy.

Survivors include one daughter, Lillian Bell of Vicksburg; five sons, Kenneth Randle, James McCoy, Telmo Bell and Johnny McCoy all of Sweet Water, Texas, and Bill R. Bell of Abileen, Texas; one sister, Delima McGowan of Cushing, Texas; 44 grandchildren; and 71 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sid Roberts Funeral Home in Nacogdoches with the Rev. Mack O. Page officiating. Burial will be at Sand Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
