5 business burglaries believed related

Five burglaries that city police believe are related were reported at businesses on U.S. 61 North and South during the weekend and today.

* Kools and Newport cigarettes valued at $400 and an empty cash register valued at $200 were reported missing at 2:51 a.m. Saturday from the Zips store, 887 U.S. 61 North.

* Computer software valued at $4,000 and $200 cash were reported missing at 8:38 p.m. Sunday from Gibson Monuments, 6434 U.S. 61 South.

* Two boxes of Black and Mild cigars valued at $60, a box of Swisher Sweets cigars valued at $32, a box of King Edward cigars valued at $32 and a cash register containing no money valued at $300 were reported missing at 11:54 p.m. Sunday from 61 Quick Stop store, 5738 U.S. 61 North.

* Damages valued at $700 and an attempt to take a cash register were reported at 2:23 this morning from Dollar General, 4000 U.S. 61 South.

* Ten cartons of Newport cigarettes valued at $32 each and a cash register containing no money valued at $200 were reported missing at 3:34 this morning at Jubilee Smoke Break convenience store, 4749 U.S. 61 South.

Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said this morning that he feels the burglaries are related.

In addition, two more business burglaries were reported in the city during the weekend.

• Ten Pioneer CD/radios valued at $200 each were reported missing at 5:10 a.m. Saturday from Innovative Autowerks, 3508 Manor Drive.

• Port Mart Texaco, 1775 N. Washington St., reported missing at 4:57 this morning 45 cartons of Newport cigarettes valued at $1,755 and 13 cases of Budweiser and Bud Light beer valued at $230.
