Johnny C. Cason Sr.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Johnny C. Cason Sr. died Monday, April 13, 2009, in Grand Rapids, Mich. He was 63.
Mr. Cason was a native of Vicksburg and a 1965 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections with 36 years of service. He was warden of Mound Correction Facility in Detroit and Muskegon Correctional Facility.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Berkmon Sr. and Josie B. Cason; two brothers, James Sanders and Berkmon Cason Jr.; and one sister, Zeta Estella Sanders.
Survivors include his wife, Lizzie L. Goodman-Cason; three sons, Johnny Jr., Michael and Dermont Cason, all of Grand Rapids; one daughter, Felicia Pe’ay of Virginia; two brothers, Willie Cason of Jackson, Mich., and Rayfield Cason of Detroit; four sisters, Rosie Cason, of Vicksburg, Mary Figures of Chicago and Charity Biven and Helon Cason, both of Grand Rapids; and other relatives and friends, including Jessie L. Terrell of Vicksburg and the Cason and Goodman families of Vicksburg.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 today, with family present from 6 until 7 p.m., at Gillespie’s Funeral Home in Grand Rapids. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at City Hope Ministries, 1975 Jefferson St. SE, Grand Rapids. Burial will follow at Floral View Cemetery in Grandville, Mich.
