VHS student arrested for theft from schoolmate

A Vicksburg High School student was in the Issaquena County Jail this morning accused of stealing another student’s purse.

Karllisha Woods, 19, 1405 Locust St., was arrested at 8:40 a.m. Thursday at her home and charged with grand larceny, said. Lt. Bobby Stewart.

Woods is accused of stealing another student’s Coach purse valued at, along with the items inside, about $800, said Stewart.

The victim was told of the suspect who stole the purse and reported it to the school resource office, said Stewart.

Only the purse was recovered, said Stewart.

Woods was held on a $5,000 bond.

City man charged with statutory rape

A Vicksburg man was in the Issaquena County Jail this morning for having sexual relations with a minor.

Floyd Ray Brown, 48, 1522 Military Ave., was arrested at 10:50 p.m. Thursday at his home and charged with statutory rape, said Lt. Bobby Stewart.

Brown is accused is having sexual intercourse with a minor under 16 after a complaint was filed by the victim’s family member, said Stewart.

He was held without bond.

Bolton man charged with embezzlement

A Bolton man was in the Warren County Jail Thursday morning for embezzling $100,000 from a local mobile home manufacturing company.

Von Eugene Richter, 66, 4120 Airport Road, surrendered to Warren County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday morning after being indicted for embezzling money from his employer allegedly for more than a year, Cappaert Manufactured Housing, 6200 U.S. 61 South, said Sheriff Martin Pace.

Richter is accused of ordering $100,000 worth of aircraft parts for his personal use on a company charge account, said Pace.

Warren County investigators had been working with company auditors for several months before a grand jury indicted Richter in January, said Pace.

He was charged with embezzlement, said Pace.

Richter was released on a $2,500 bond.

City woman held on cocaine charge

A Vicksburg woman was in the Warren County Jail this morning for a warrant stemming back from a 2004 charge.

Vanessa Lyons, 37, 125 Drake Road, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Vicksburg Police Department after showing up for a hearing on unrelated charges at the municipal court on the same morning, said Lt. Bobby Stewart.

Lyons was arrested by VPD and indicted by the grand jury in 2004 on a sale of cocaine charge, said Stewart.

She failed to appear for her grand jury hearing, in which an arrest warrant was issued since 2004, said Stewart.

She was held without bond.

Magee man jailed for two fake checks

A Magee man was in the Warren County Thursday for passing fake checks at a local convenience store.

Mark S. King, 40, 112 Maudekiah King Drive, was arrested at 1 p.m. Monday and charged with uttering a forgery, said Lt. Bobby Stewart.

King is accused of passing two counterfeit checks totaling $795.14 at the Shell Jubilee, 3595 U.S. 61 South, on Jan. 13, said Stewart.

He was held on a $15,000 bond.

City man arrested for cocaine possession

A Vicksburg man was in the Issaquena County Jail Thursday morning for possession of cocaine.

James Gibbs III, 36, 2369 Old Highway 27, was arrested at 3:52 a.m. after a traffic stop on Porters Chapel Road near Bell Meade subdivision and was charged with possession of cocaine after police found the illegal substance on him during a search, said Lt. Bobby Stewart.

He was held without bond.

Tools, CD player among missing items

A residential burglary and an auto burglary were reported in the city Wednesday.

* Assorted handtools valued at $200, a Husky air compressor valued at $100, two cordless drills valued at $100, an electric grinder valued at $40, an electric welder valued at $200, a wet/dry vacuum valued at $40 and a Honda weed trimmer valued at $80 were reported missing at 6:57 a.m. from a home in the 300 block of Northridge Drive.

* A Pioneer CD player valued at $170 was reported missing at 8:18 a.m. from a 1994 Honda Accord in the 1000 block of Walnut Street.

Separately, two auto burglaries, a residential burglary and an auto theft were reported in the city Thursday and today.

* Reported missing at 5:57 p.m. was $3 from a 2001 Honda Civic in the 100 block of Westover Drive.

* Reported missing at 1:30 this morning was $30 from a 1998 Toyota Tacoma in the 3000 block of Wisconsin Avenue.

* A Timex watch valued at $60, a Gerber pocket knife valued at $200, a fishing pole valued at $130 and $10 in quarters were reported missing at 10:30 a.m. from a home in the 800 block of Clay Street.

* A 2007 Pontiac G6 with a Mississippi tag WAB 137 was reported missing at 7:05 a.m. from the 2500 block of Drummond Street.

Seven people injured in N. Washington wreck

Seven people were sent to the hospital after a three-car wreck at North Washington Street and Gaultney Road at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Addie Ridley, 62, 447 N. Delessets St., Greenville, and Dequarrion Harris, 3, Leroy Barnes, 3, Keshona Barnes, 11, Johnnie Shelton, 59, Irene Harris, 51, and Minerva Harris, 26, all of 134 Curry St., were taken to River Region Medical Center.

Ridley was in fair condition this morning, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said. The others were treated and released.

No wreck information was available.

Wine coolers, beer missing from bar

A business burglary was reported at 8:48 a.m. Thursday at the Old School Club, 2820 N. Washington St.

Two cases of wine coolers valued at $48, eight quarts of Bud Light beer valued at $8 and $13 in cash were reported missing.

Lt. Bobby Stewart said this morning he does not believe this burglary was related to the string of business burglaries reported in the city, in which two men’s names were released Thursday as suspects.
