James M. McGee

James M. McGee died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He was 74.

Born in Copiah County, Miss., Mr. McGee had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1966. He was the son of the late Norman Mack McGee and Myra Essie Conn McGee and a graduate of Hazlehurst High School.

Mr. McGee retired from Baxter-Wilson Steam Electric Station as an operating supervisor with 45 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing along with other sports. He was a member of the Army-Navy Club, the Civitan Club and Bowmar Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Adult 5 Men’s Sunday school class.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dot McGee of Vicksburg; three daughters, Cindy Guest and her husband, Hugh, of Vicksburg, Sherri Buchanan and her husband, Buck, of Kosciusko, and Stacey Waites and Ronnie Ingram of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Lori Trussell Spann, Rachel Trussell Foster, Jamie Buchanan, Jacob Buchanan, Maggie Waites and Parker Waites; and four great-grandchildren, Kayla Marie Foster, William Kyle Foster, Cassidy Elaine Spann and Nathael Taylor Buchanan.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry White, pastor of Bowmar Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery in Copiah County. Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from noon today until the hour of the service.  

Pallbearers will be Hugh Guest, James “Buck” Buchanan, Ronnie Ingram, Jamie Buchanan, Jacob Buchanan, Parker Waites, Sammy Foster and Steve Butler.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Gilmore, David Vanderberry, Lee Brown, Gary Lick, George M. Trussell, Travis Chambless, Dr. John Robert Ford and the members of Bowmar Baptist Church Men’s Adult 5 Sunday school class.

Memorials may be made to favorite charities.
