James W. Raney Sr. died Friday, April 24, 2009, at River Region Medical Center. He was 58.

Mr. Raney lived off and on in Vicksburg his entire life. He was a carpenter and an avid sportsman and of the Southern Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Beverly Raney; and one brother, Sammy Raney.

Survivors include three sons, Gregory Raney of Mathiston, Miss., James W. Raney Jr. of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Franklin Raney of Rapid City, S.D.; two brothers, Dennis Raney of Newellton and Ryan Raney of Vicskburg; and four sisters, Mary Stephenson and Barbara Bowie, both of Ackerman, Terrie Stevens of Maven, Miss., and Tammie Foster of Bentonia; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home, with graveside services at 4:30 p.m. and burial at Spring Valley Cemetery in Mathiston. Visitation is today from 2 to 5 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Jason Stephenson, Michael Raney, Leland Stevens, Jessie Raney, Sammie Bowie and Anthony Stevens. Honorary pallbearers will be Herschel Raney, Jeremy Stephenson and Buddy Stevens.
