The 39th annual Play-A-Day-In-May-Away kicks off Friday and continues Saturday at Vicksburg Catholic School. “Bedtime Stories” will be shown at 6:30 Friday night. Tickets are $3 in advance or $5 at the door. Outdoor events will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday and will end at 3 p.m. Unlimited-play wristbands are $25; single-play tickets are four for $1 in advance or three for $1 on Saturday. Advance tickets to all events will be available until the end of school Friday at the St. Francis Xavier Elementary office. In case of rain, activities will be moved to the St. Aloysius gym. For information, call 601-630-9762 or visit www.vicksburgcatholic.org.
“The event is a lot of fun,” said Patty Mekus, VCS development and alumni affairs director.
This year’s theme will be Showtime, and the event will, for the first time, feature a movie night. “Bedtime Stories,” starring Adam Sandler, will be shown Friday night on a motorized viewing screen, a gift from the class of 2007, inside the St. Aloysius High School gym. Tickets are $3 in advance or $5 at the door.
Events will continue Saturday morning with outdoor activities, including a Nintendo Wii bowling tournament, human space ball gyroscope, 34-foot water slide, as well as food and homemade candies and baked goods. Wristbands are $25 and allow unlimited access to all activities, except for the bowling tournament, Bingo and food. Single-play activity tickets are four for $1 in advance or three for $1 on Saturday.
Last year drew more than 500 people, Mekus said. Proceeds will benefit Vicksburg Catholic School’s operational expense, and parking will be available along Grove, Hayes and Howard streets.
“A lot of people come because it happens every year,” Mekus said.
The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and a high of 75. In case of rain, events will move to the St. Al gym.
“There’s going to be beautiful weather and a day full of fun,” Mekus said. “Rain or shine, Play-a-Day will happen.”
Vicksburg Catholic includes St. Francis Xavier Elementary and St. Aloysius High School.
