Gator doubles teams advance at state|Prep tennis

RIDGELAND — Both of Vicksburg High’s girls doubles teams advanced to the semifinals of the Class 4A Tennis Tournament Monday afternoon at the Ridgeland Tennis Center.

In No. 1 girls doubles, Christine and Catherine Figueroa defeated a doubles team from Pontotoc 6-1, 6-1. The Figueroa sisters advanced last year to the state finals before falling to Oxford. This morning, the Figueroas were set to play a team from St. Martin in the semifinals. The championship match was set to begin at noon.

In No. 2 girls doubles, Charlene Figueroa and Grace Ga-as won their match over a pair from St. Martin 6-1, 6-1. Figueroa and Ga-as faced the No. 1 seed from Oxford this morning.

Vicksburg’s No. 2 boys doubles team of Donald Brown and Perry Tolliver lost a tough three-set match to Carl Capaning and Jacob Rowland of New Albany 6-7 (8-6), 6-1, 6-3.
