Charles Jones Jr., the former Vicksburg Housing Authority supervisor who was indicted last week for possession of and intending to sell cocaine, was arrested Wednesday by Vicksburg police and charged with embezzlement of $4,370 in equipment from the housing authority.

Jones, 45, 924 Bowmar Ave., made his initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court before Judge Walterine Langford, who set bond at $50,000.

Jones spoke only to say he understood the charges. His attorney, Mike Bonner of Vicksburg, a former assistant district attorney, said Jones would post bond today.

He would be forced to post the bond at Warren County Jail because the charge is a felony.

Jones has been free on a $250,000 bond since four days after his Dec. 19 arrest by a multiagency law enforcement group in what Police Chief Tommy Moffett called a five-year investigation. Accused of receiving 2.2 pounds of cocaine mailed to him at the VHA office, Jones was indicted by the Warren County grand jury Thursday on one count of possession of the drug and one count of possession with intent to distribute. His trial is scheduled for Nov. 30, and he faces up to 46 years in prison if convicted.
