William Douglas Upchurch

William Douglas Upchurch, age 66, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at River Region Medical Center after suffering a heart attack.

Born in Brooksville, Miss., he graduated from McComb High School, attended Southwest Mississippi Junior College and received his PhD in psychology from Louisiana Baptist University in 2004.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Andrea Jones Upchurch; son, Keith Douglas Upchurch and fiancee Jill Waring of Vicksburg; stepson, William Scott Bowers of Brookhaven, Miss.; granddaughter, Elizabeth Dawn Bowers of Vicksburg; and brother John David Upchurch and wife Ginger of Brewton, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Harrison Upchurch and Virgie Griffin Upchurch of McComb.

Mr. Upchurch was owner of Jones and Upchurch Inc. Real Estate Agency, where he was also a certified general appraiser. He was a member and past president of the Vicksburg Warren County Board of Realtors.

He was a founding member and director of River City Rescue Mission. A singer and guitarist, Doug was guest music minister for local and regional congregations.

He will be remembered for his love of Christmas, always decorating his Audubon Hills neighborhood.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Triumph Church, 136 Honeysuckle Lane.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the River City Rescue Mission, 3705 Washington St., Vicksburg, MS 39180.
