A fire this morning significantly damaged a home at 1706 Heather Drive, said Chuck Tate of the Culkin Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighters responded at 6:05 and found the brick-veneer home fully involved, Tate said, with flames coming out the front door.
Home at the time were Mary Williams, age unknown, and an infant. Both got out of the home safely, Tate said, and refused medical treatment. Three other residents were not present.
The fire broke out in the kitchen, spreading to the living room and attic, which saw “significant structural damage.” Other rooms were damaged by smoke and heat.
Backup units from Bovina, Fisher Ferry and Northeast volunteer departments also responded. The fire was under control by about 6:30 a.m., Tate said.
Tallulah man shot, in Jackson’s UMC
A Tallulah man shot Thursday in front of his home was in serious condition today in the surgical intensive care unit at University Medical Center in Jackson, a hospital spokesman said.
Thorneial Wilmore, 31, 703 W. Thelma St., was shot at 2:48 a.m. after walking out of his house, said Maj. Neil Horath, spokesman for the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators have not identified any suspects, Horath said, and no witnesses have come forward with information. Wilmore’s mother, with whom he lives, called emergency when she heard the shots fired. There was no indication of why Wilmore was walking out of his home at that hour, Horath said.
“We’ll be checking on his condition this morning and hope to get over there to interview him, to find out what happened,” he said.
