Miss Walker to marry Mr. Bolls in Jackson

Robert Major and Sylvia L. Walker of Jackson announce the engagement of their daughter, Marlena Victoria, to Melvin Lamar Bolls. Mr. Bolls is the son of Edna Garnett of Vicksburg and Melvin Bolls Jr. of Jackson.

Miss Walker is the granddaughter of the late Robert and Annie Mae Walker and the late J.B. and Luda Mae Stalls of Vicksburg.

Mr. Bolls is the grandson of Melvin Bolls Sr. of Bovina and the late Mary Bolls, Maggie Fields of Vicksburg and the late M.C. Perry.

The bride-elect is a Top Ten graduate of Vicksburg High School, where she was a four-year member of the Gator Girls dance team, serving as captain. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Council, Key Club and band.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Tougaloo College in 2002, a master of public policy and administration from Jackson State University in 2006 and a master of education in secondary education from Mississippi College in 2008.

She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and the Spanish Club and served as president of the Student Government Association. She was a member of the Tougaloo Prancing Eaglettes dance team.

Miss Walker is an Upward Bound instructor at Hinds Community College in Utica.

The prospective groom is a 2000 graduate of Vicksburg High School, where he was a member of JROTC and the Environmental Club.

He received an Associate of Arts degree in general studies in 2004 from Hinds Community College, where he served as manager of the HCC band.

He is pursuing a degree in computer and information systems from Mississippi College, where he is a member of the Computer Science Club.

Mr. Bolls is an information systems technician with the 412th Theater Engineers Command.

Vows will be exchanged June 20, 2009, at the Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson. A reception will follow.
