When veteran law enforcement officer Tom R. Wilson III was laid to rest Wednesday, more than 250 civilian and law enforcement cars drove in a procession from Bowmar Baptist Church on U.S. 61 South to Green Acres Memorial Park on U.S. 80. The service and procession for Warren County Deputy Wilson closed U.S. 61 and Interstate 20 East. Respectful drivers and others along the way stopped their cars and put their hands on their hearts or saluted the hearse carrying the 39-year-old husband and father who was killed early Sunday on his way to a call. Following the graveside service, Sheriff Martin Pace radioed all listening that the deputy’s badge number, 44, had been retired. (Meredith Spencer*The Vicksburg Post)
