Vernell Williams Young

CAMARILLO, Calif. — Vernell “Bonnie” Williams Young died Monday, May 18, 2009, at her home in Camarillo, Calif. She was 53.
A Vicksburg native, Mrs. Young was of the Christian faith. She graduated in 1973 from North Vicksburg High School and attended Jackson State University and the University of Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Theresa McKewen; a brother, Robert Earl Payne Jr.; and her grandparents, Henry “Ham” and Evelyn “EG” Williams.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Dell Young; two sons, Dmitri Dell Young of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Delmon DeMarcus Young of Camarillo; two daughters, Detra Lucille Young and DeAnn Lavone Young, both of Camarillo; her father, Leon A. Williams Sr.; 12 sisters, Sharon Ratliff, Sheila Williams, Diane Williams and Charlene McKewen, all of Vicksburg, Aleta Faye Lewis, Aletha Gaye Craft, Janice Shelby and Beatrice Nichols, all of Las Vegas, Josephine Smith of St. Louis, Mo., Marisa Jackson of Houston, Texas, Kimberly Fisher of Utica and Melba Peters of Braxton; five brothers, Donell Bride, Henry McKewen Jr., Duane Williams and George Evans, all of Vicksburg, and Leon A. Williams Jr. of Jackson; her stepmother, Jane Skinner of Las Vegas; five grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greater Grove Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Miller Sr. officiating. Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
