Bovina

• Fifth-grade GATES students rode the Sweet Olive on the Mississippi River and toured McRaven and the murals at City Front. Sixth-grade GATES students toured McRaven, the National Military Park and Chapel of the Cross at Madison. Second-grade GATES students visited High Delta Safari Park in Delhi.

• Top Accelerated Readers for the school year were Aayana Chapman, kindergarten; Shelby Hartley, first grade; McKinley Skipper, second grade; Colin Standish, third grade; Lauren Davis, fourth grade; James Kinnebrew, fifth grade; and Jacob Watson, sixth grade.

Bowmar

• Sixth-grade graduation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday. Awards program will be Friday morning; grades K-3 will begin at 9 and grades 4-6 will assemble at 11.

• “Kindergarten Follies,” a presentation of songs and dances at Tuesday’s PTO meeting, received two standing ovations. Cassandra Terry’s kindergartners participated in an end-of-the-year party, which included a retirement party for their teacher.

First-grade pledge captains were Khyrean Jones, Abby Claire Fuller, Tripp Curtis, J’Meiha Allen and Courtney Sweeney.

• Finley Akers, Miss Mid South, spoke to Susan Mims’ second-graders about the importance of being a mentor. Sherice Glasper spoke to second-graders about Character Education.

Hawkins

• Registration is open for 1-4-year-old classes.

• Bert Carraway shared stories with 2-year-olds.

• Four-year-olds graduated from Hawkins Preschool on Thursday.

Jacob’s Ladder

• Students gathered bulletins from The Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal. They also visited the pet shop in Mike Katzenmeyer’s Antique Store.

• Misty Grantham, Robin Smith, Alayn Bufkin, Carol Bufkin, Matthew Grogan and Matt McKay returned with 12 medals and one ribbon from the State Special Olympic Summer Games held at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.

• Volunteers who worked to clean up the school grounds were Terrence James, Holley Simrall, Michael Scott, Andra Terry, Dominique Foster, Reggie Sweet, Ben Blue, Kaya Rader, Raphael Harris, Paul Alexandie, Gevante Titus, Nick Rader, Sheryl Monger, Brittany Shears and Megan Welt.

• Will Conway, Matthew Grogan and Robin Smith worked at McAlister’s on Tuesday. Misty Grantham worked at Just Duett Sports, and Matt McKay worked at County Market.

• Winners of the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation poster contest winners were Will Conway, first place, $50; Alayn Bufkin, second place, $30; and Carol Bufkin, third place, $20.

Redwood

• Pledge leaders for the week were Ashlea Rainey, Terrell Branch, DeQuarin Buck, Jacie Redditt, Evan Mabe, Rhae Height, Lauren Bland, Spencer Azlin, Shunderrick Hamilton and Selena Ortiz.

• International Paper Co. provided life science materials to classrooms, including butterfly houses and ant habitats. Students released Painted Lady butterflies.

• Gloria Anderson’s first-graders celebrated Space Day with help from guest speaker Rosemary Murphy and parent volunteers Sandra Harris, Daphne Turner, Dru Holdiness and Missy Stockstill.

• Second-grade students of Audrey Tyrone, Therese Hood and Gloria Anderson visited High Delta Safari in Epps, La. Parent volunteers Daphne Turner, Karlene Kelley, Dottie Lee, Sandra Harris, Stacie Hinson, Shirley Gibson, Patricia Rankin, Janice and David Darby, Charlene Ponder and Shirley Rushing assisted.

• Awards program for grades 1-5 will be Thursday. Sixth-grade celebration will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, and report cards will be sent home. Monday will be a 60 percent day; no meals will be served.

Sherman Avenue

• After a study of dinosaurs, Heather Williams’ second-graders worked as archaeologists to excavate chocolate chip “fossils” from cookies, wrote dinosaur super sentences and created clay models.

South Park

• JoAnn Reeves’ second-graders were treated to a pizza party by the PTO for being a top seller in the cookie-dough fund-raiser.

• Miss Mississippi and Henry Johnson, VHS band director, spoke to fifth-graders about choices as part of a reception sponsored by teachers.

• As part of AmeriCorps Week, the school’s ARM team distributed program info at the Outlets at Vicksburg with other area teams.

• Fourth-graders placed flags on Military Park graves as part of a Memorial Day activity. They also toured the Cairo.

• Mary Qasim of Morning Gardeners donated an apple tree to the third grade. The tree was planted with the help of Ken and Cathey Hall.

St. Aloysius

• Senior members of the Retreat team sponsored a retreat for sixth-graders at St. Michael Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus home.

• Seniors and their families attended an awards ceremony at St. Michael’s parish hall.

• Students have completed end-of-the-year exams.

• Seniors were honored with a baccalaureate Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church.

St. Francis

• Preschoolers visited downtown and the Art Park at Catfish Row. First-graders also visited the Art Park at Catfish Row, as well as the murals at City Front and the Mississippi River aboard the Sweet Olive.

• Sixth-graders were honored with a Mass in the St. Aloysius gym.

• Author Sarah Campbell read “Wolfsnail,” a book she wrote, to elementary students.

Vicksburg Intermediate

• Graduation ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at Viking Stadium.

Warren Junior High

• Awards night was held Monday. Academic achievement awards were presented to students as well as special areas, honor roll and perfect attendance.

• Semester exams began Tuesday. Third and fourth period exams are being given today. Fifth and sixth period exams will be administered Thursday, and seventh period and make-up exams on Friday. Make-ups will also be Monday.

• Monday is a 60 percent day; no breakfast or lunch will be served.

Warrenton
