5 from Vicksburg chosen for Baptist summer missions

Five college students from Vicksburg have been chosen as summer missionaries through the Mississippi Baptist Student Union, said a news release.

The five are among 200 Mississippi college students chosen to serve eight to 10 weeks alongside career missionaries of the International Missionary Board or North American Mission Board.

Through funds raised by 31 BSU programs at colleges across the state, the students’ expenses will be mostly covered. This year, $150,000 was raised.

The summer missions program is sponsored by the Collegiate Ministry Department of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board.

The Vicksburg students are:

• Eric English, the son of Steve and Robin English. He attends Mississippi State University and will serve in South America.

• Jordan Ingram, the son of Rick and Lisa Ingram. He attends Mississippi State and will serve in Asia.

• Sam Sullivan, the son of Jimmy and Beth Sullivan, fomerly of Vicksburg. He attends Mississippi State and will serve in Asia.

• Ian Derrick, the son of David Derrick and Donna Derrick. He attends Meridian Community College and will serve in Africa.

• Hayley Boyd, the daughter of Jimmy and Tracey Boyd. She attends the University of Southern Mississippi and will serve in Canada.
