D.P. Waring Jr., left, and Joe Gerache, second from left, hold on to an American flag presented by their children, Dan and Janice Gerache Waring, to be flown over the U.S. 80 bridge over the Mississippi River. The younger Warings donated the flag in honor of their fathers’ service to the United States during World War II. About 30 family members and friends gathered for the presentation. Janice Waring said she and her husband felt it was important to remember the WWII vets whose numbers are dwindling with age. Blanche Millsaps of Vicksburg, who has overseen the replacement of flags since 1994, said a new one flies about four times a year.
