Robert Wheatley died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was 88.

A Vicksburg native, Mr. Wheatley was a member of Ebenezer M.B. Church. He retired from Cooper Lighting after 33 years as a painter and from the Warren County Health Department after 15 years as a custodian.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Mosley and Pearlie Davis; a son, Herman Wheatley; a daughter, Gladys Ellis; one brother, Doc Davis; and one sister, Minnie Pearl Lowe.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Wheatley of Savannah, Ga.; four daughters, Ernestine Allen, Robbie Hebron and Mary French, all of Vicksburg, and Annie Bernice Harrison of Houston, Texas; two sons, Richard Wheatley of Monroe, La., and Reginald Wheatley of Kingwood, Texas; three sisters, Lealer Wash of Vicksburg, Ella Mae Scott of Cleveland, Ohio, and Gertrude Stafford of Flint, Mich.; a brother, Eugene Davis Jr. of Vicksburg; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
