Swamp Meet rewarding

Published 12:00 am Saturday, June 6, 2009

On May 16, Vicksburg Intermediate School had its first ever Gator Swamp Meet Carnival. The weather first appeared as it if it wasn’t going to cooperate, so we moved everything inside. Things were slow for the first 20 minutes, then the school was bursting with excited children, smells of popcorn and shots of winners from the various games.

The event was 100 percent a success, not just because money was raised but because the entire VIS family — faculty and staff, students, parents and community businesses — came together with one goal. That was to show pride in our school while giving the families something fun and positive to do.

The day would not have been possible for everyone pulling together. I want especially to thank Mrs. Janice Koestler, assistant principal, for all the hours she spent preparing for this day. Also, this day would not have happened were it not for the support of the faculty and staff, the PTO members, the parents, students and all the sponsors who made donations.

This event was successful, but more import, was fun and rewarding to all those who participated. I’m looking forward to doing it again this coming fall. See you there.

Players had fans

The players and I would like to thank the sponsors of Challenger League Softball 2009: Danny Hearn Trucking, River City Roll Offs, Buford Construction, Riverside Construction, Vicksburg Kiwanis, Batesville Casket and also Mr. Ed Wong and Vicksburg High School Key Club.

With their support, I was able to buy uniforms, equipment and pay for team pictures and trophies for these special ballplayers.

On May, 30 the players were presented with team pictures and trophies and, following awards, had a cookout.

I would again like to thank all the sponsors. Without their help this would not have been possible. Thanks for making these special ball players feel great.
