Trustmark Bank’s branches in Vicksburg have received statewide recognition for volunteer service.
They were selected for the 2009 Governor’s Initiative for Volunteer Excellence Award for achievement in volunteer service by a business or corporation during a ceremony Friday in Jackson. Presentations were made by the Commission for Volunteer Service, Gov. Haley Barbour and first lady Marsha Barbour.
“The annual GIVE awards are a continued tradition of excellence for honoring Mississippians who embody the tradition of ‘love thy neighbor’ in serving others,” Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service Executive Director David Mallery said in a statement.
Employees of the six Trustmark locations in Vicksburg contributed more than 1,414 hours of community service.
“At Trustmark, we believe in enhancing the quality of life for all citizens in communities where we work and live,” bank president Jerry Hall said. “We encourage our people to take pride in the community and get involved — and they do get involved.”
Partnerships formed locally by the bank include the United Way of West Central Mississippi, American Red Cross Vicksburg Area Chapter, Boy Scouts, Central Mississippi Prevention Service, Vicksburg Child Abuse Prevention Center, Community Council of Warren County, Haven House Family Shelter, Salvation Army, Warren County Children’s Shelter, Vicksburg Lions Club, March of Dimes, American Heart Association and YMCA.
Bank employees have initiated projects through St. Michael Catholic Church, Festival of Trees, Adopt-A-School programs, Over the River Run, MSU Money Mentor Programs, Run Through History, Exchange Club of Vicksburg, and Traveler’s Rest Career Day Program.
