Pounders to wed Baldwin

The Baldwin and Rogers families of Vicksburg announce the engagement of their grandson and nephew, Toney Baldwin of Clinton, to Shunda L. Pounders, also of Clinton.

Miss Pounders is the daughter of Lillie Pounders of Memphis and Stanley Pounders of Merriville, Ind. She is the granddaughter of Easter Rayford, the late Manuel Frank Rayford Sr., Bobby Walton and the late Dan and Edith Stocks, all of Batesville, and Allie Bell Pounders of Memphis.

Mr. Baldwin is the son of the late Barbara Rogers Baldwin and the late Johnny “Money” Baldwin Sr. He is the grandson of the late Square Harris and the late Addie B. Rogers, all of Vicksburg.

The bride-elect is a 1995 graduate of South Panola High in Batesville. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice from Jackson State University, where she was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and served as president of the Pre-Alumni Association for two years.

In 2004, she received a law degree from Mississippi College School of Law where she was a member of the Law Review Staff, Mock Trial Committee, the Black Law Students Association and the Women Student Bar Association. She was an R. Jess Brown Scholar and recipient of the Betty B. Tucker Scholarship.

Miss Pounders is an associate attorney with Brunini, Granthan, Grower & Hewes PLLC. She is also a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, Magnolia Bar Association, Hinds County Bar Association, the American Bar Association and Holy Temple M.B. Church.

The prospective groom is a 1991 graduate of Warren Central High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff and a law degree from Southern University School of Law in Baton Rouge in 2005. 

Mr. Baldwin is an associate attorney at Richard Schwartz & Associates PLLC in Jackson. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and Holy Temple M.B. Church of Jackson.

Vows will be exchanged in a private ceremony at 5 p.m. June 20, 2009, at the Jackson Convention Complex. A private reception will follow.
