Charles Roland Lestage

Charles Roland Lestage died unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, June 18, 2009. He was 70.

Born in Campti, La., he was the son of the late Joseph Roland and Ruth Robertson Lestage.

Mr. Lestage had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past 34 years. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La., receiving his degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation he served four years in the Air Force. Mr. Lestage retired from the Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Commission in 1995. He was an avid golfer and gardener. Mr. Lestage was a communicant of St. Michael Catholic Church and a member of the Council 898 Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by three daughters, Kelly Gunnels of Fort Mill, S.C., Susan Monistere of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Karen Roof of Arcata, Calif.; five grandchildren, Aubrey and Nathan Gunnels, Daniel and Douglas Monistere and Connor Roof; a sister, Jill Lestage Brown of Russellville, Ark.; and other family members and friends including Glenda Fletcher.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Carra Sue Ingram Lestage.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. P. J. Curley, Pastor, presiding. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Riles Funeral Home with the Knights of Columbus prayers at 6:15 and a prayer service at 6:30. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church Building Fund, 100 St. Michael Place, Vicksburg, MS 39180 and to The Gynecologic Cancer Foundation, 239 West Monroe, Suite 2528, Chicago, IL 60606-4703.

Pallbearers will be Bob Lestage, Mike Tilton, Brad Fletcher, Ed Fletcher, Jay Ott, John Piazza and Tom Chady.
