The Red Sox went 4-0 in the tournament, but the championship game was the easiest win of them all. Their first three wins were by a combined total of just four runs.

In the 11-year-olds’ USSSA Class AAA tournament in Canton, the Vicksburg Venom didn’t fare as well.

The Woodland Sliders beat the Venom 7-5 in a losers’ bracket game on Sunday. The Sliders hit a pair of homers and outhit the Venom 9-4, but Vicksburg still had a chance to tie it in the sixth inning. The Venom had two runners on with two outs when a pop fly ended the game.

The Venom, last year’s 10-year-olds’ state champions, finished third in the 15-team tournament. They had to play three games on Saturday after falling into the losers’ bracket.

John Austin Burris went 7-for-10 in the tournament with three extra base hits, while Tyler Smith went 8-for-15 with three home runs and two triples.
