Meeting Thursday, the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen:

• Acknowledged employment anniversaries for Doug King, police, 15 years; Don Hollowell, streets, 15 years; Edward Miller, inspection, 15 years; Jeff Richardson, landscape, 15 years; Rick Beers, information technology, 10 years; Brenda Bartlett, legal, 10 years; Melvin Holman, fire, five years; and Samuel Landers, building maintenance, five years.

• Proclaimed Emergency Management/Homeland Security Day, and recognized City Emergency Management Director Anna Booth.

• Heard from Annette Kirklin, director of the Southern Cultural Heritage Center, about upcoming events at the center.

• Awarded a Vicksburg Auditorium roofing contract to Central Roofing of West Monroe for $74,287, but delayed signing the deal pending a contract review.

• Continues an equipment lease-purchase with BancorpSouth.

• Voted to seek sealed proposals for airport improvements.

• Signed a one-year license agreement with Tyler Technologies Inc. for MUNIS Software at $38,811.

• OK’d an agreement with Warren County to split a $60,365 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Award.

• Hired Stan Woodson to design an additional beam for the Vicksburg Auditorium stage. Payment cannot exceed $450.

• Approved a letter to Kansas City Southern Railroad regarding street closures on Saturday, July 18, for the Miss Mississippi Pageant, and approved an alternate parade route.

• Granted final approval for tax abatement for property at 2640 S. Frontage Road, owned by Dan P. Waring III and Ronald L. Andrews.

• Tabled a request to purchase a Chevrolet Tahoe for $24,509.55 under state contract. South Ward Alderman Sid Beauman said the vehicle would be for assigned to Mayor-elect Paul Winfield and suggested the new board should make the purchase decision.

• Declared an iPhone and accessories surplus and authorized selling the items to Mayor Laurence Leyens for $438.51.

• Declared a 1988 Chevrolet 2500 truck surplus and donated it to Mayersville.

• Approved a requisition of $127,338.75 to Adapco Inc. for mosquito control.

• Authorized the city clerk to publish a notice of final payment to Dirtworks Inc. for three projects.

• Approved a request for a $100 ad from the Vicksburg Homecoming Benevolent Club for its 34th annual homecoming celebration souvenir booklet.

• Approved $2,036 for Vicksburg Main Street Program advertising in July.

• Approved a request from the Vaughn-Williams family coordinators to close the 1000 block of Second North Street between Grove and Jackson on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for a family reunion.

• Approved a request from the Vicksburg-Warren County Board of Realtors to place three weatherproof magazine racks on Washington Street in front of or near Rusty’s, Amanda Monsour Photography, Paper Plus and Art & Soul.

• Approved a request from the Vicksburg Police Department to spend $7,000 on scheduled activities for the remainder of the year.

In executive session, the board:

• Approved action forms for longevity of employment for eight employees in the police, street, inspection, landscape, information technology, legal, fire and building maintenance departments.

• Approved promotions for an employee in the Main Street and gas departments.

• Approved one transfer in the inspection department.

• Approved one pay adjustment in the police department.

• Approved one termination in each the sewer and water maintenance departments.

• Discussed four personnel matters in the police, sewer and accounting departments.

• Discussed one litigation matter.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. in room 109 of the City Hall Annex, 1415 Walnut St.
