Stella Jacobs

HERMANVILLE — Stella Jacobs died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Evergreen Help Care Center in Evergreen Park, Ill. She was 91.

Mrs. Jacobs was a member of and mother at First Baptist Church of Hermanville and a member of the Heroine of Jericho, Silver Star Chapter No. 34 of the Easter Stars, where she served as past Worthy Matron and member of the Benevolent Society, Baptist Aid and Christian Aid.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Jacobs Sr.; daughters, Georgia Ruby Beaman and Minnie L. McNair; and sons, Robert Jacobs, Melvin Jacobs and George Jacobs Jr.

Survivors include her son, Roy Jacobs of Detroit; daughters, Mary Ella Cooley and Irmogene Hardy, both of Chicago, and Janie L. Jacobs-Garrett of Houston and Yasmin Jacobs of Starkville; stepsons, Lydell Jacobs and Cornelius Jacobs, both of Chicago; stepdaughter, Adella Raymond of Atlanta; 30 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Hermanville with the Rev. Johnnie Hughes officiating. Burial will be at Hermanville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 4 this afternoon, with a family hour from 4 to 5, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Port Gibson, and from noon until the service Monday at the church.
