A 3-week-old child with broken bones and a skull fracture was in University Medical Center in Jackson this morning, and her mother was in the Warren County Jail on charges of felony child abuse.

Kristen Elizabeth Walters, 24, 7094 Oak Ridge Road, was being held without bond after her arrest by Warren County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

The child, who was not identified because of her age, had been taken to River Region Medical Center Sunday morning with the skull fracture and broken bones, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said. He said River Region notified his office of the injuries, and the child was immediately placed in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Human Services.

Pace said the child’s injuries appeared to have occurred during the night Saturday.

“We will bring this before the August term of the grand jury,” Pace said.
